Local news in Milwaukee is hurting small business

If you haven’t seen Anchorman: The legend of Ron Burgundy, you should.  Local news is the same everywhere. That’s why the movie Anchorman was so funny. 3 hours a day are dedicated to drivel spit forth by some of the cheesiest characters on earth.  Obviously there is some formula that works for them. Corny, cheesy, hokey and just plain lame. I can live with that.  I actually get a decent laugh at it sometimes. It’s also assumed that when there is no news, they will create some. They look for scandal where there is none. Blow things out of proportion, it’s a given. Wouldn’t it be refreshing if you turned on the news and they said ” Well, there really isn’t a hell of a lot going on today, so instead we are going to show a Seinfeld re-run”. Instead its “When tennis balls attack and whats hiding in your salad, Courtney Gerrish reports”.  Again, not unusual. But in the last couple weeks I have seen a few stories that are not funny, and if you really look at whats going on you will see the ripple effect of the damage that is happening. In creating news, two local news stations are causing direct harm to small business and people in the community. With everything that is happening in the world, this is inexcusable.

I woke up this morning to the deep and ominous voice over warning me about illegal gambling that is happening in my local community, and what I don’t know might just “Shock” me. Video machines. Why the hell would TMJ 4 run some ridiculous segment on poker machines in restaurants?  They open with the line “We have all seen them before, video poker machines  in bars and restaurants”. Well there you go genius, yes we have seen them before, and guess what? None of us care. I thought you were going to shock me!

We live in a city with one of the most brutal police forces in the country, highest crime and worst  education. You run a segment about  poker machines and then go and send your termites into bust them on camera? You are exposing something that’s out in the open and accepted, do you see the joke here? For Gods sake. Leave local business owners alone. I wont even mention the fact that you can drive 3 blocks to a massive casino where a wealthy tribe of Indians will gladly help you blow your kids college funds. Tell me something, do you think its easier to lose your life savings in $25 bets on blackjack or nickle by nickle when you’re eating lunch?

If you have to invade bars and restaurants – go after dirty kitchens, or here is an idea: why not take one of your vans down to 27th and wells and just sit there and record crime? You people make me ill. I wonder if you drive home at night thinking about how ridiculous you sounded today, thinking about all the opportunities you missed to make some stupid joke about stories that no one cares about – “HA HA HA look at that! That squirrel can water ski!”. I also wonder how you show your face in any bar or eating place (most of them) that have those machines that don’t bother anyone. If I were a manager, I’d pop you in the nose, at the very least, ask you to leave. I wonder whats going to end up in your food? Dirty dining indeed.

Shame on you TMJ4, your news is bad enough as it is.  Stop going after the upstanding business owners in the community and deal with REAL issues, or have you completely lost site of what those are? I hope I see you doing one of your hidden camera exposes, I really hope I run into you.

And FOX 6, you are even worse, SO much worse. Going after the Riverwest Clinic and getting them shut down just for a juicy story? Oh FOX 6, the mighty defender of the defenseless. Did you ever ask the parents of the kid who overdosed whether or not they taught him personal responsibility or self control? Did they teach him about drugs? Talk to him? Death is tragic, but the pain you caused innocent people (the patients) is reprehensible. There is a reason people do drugs,  and it’s not just because they are available. It’s a societal issue and you’re fear mongering and finger pointing does nothing.

You foster a plague that I see infecting this country, no one will accept responsibility for their own actions. Your ridiculous witch hunt caused patients to be left out in the cold, literally. With no access to their medical records, no recourse, they were just left to suffer. You  should be ashamed of yourself.  You say that prescriptions are paid for in cash like its some sort of back alley drug deal. How convenient of you to not follow up with the reason this happens is that most have no insurance.  In your quest to be relevant you ended up hurting a lot of people, a lot, and you should be, and very well might be held accountable for it. Do you know how easy it is to go to multiple doctors and fake ailments? Do you know that the average time a doctor has to listen to you is 15 seconds and then its straight to another patient? I have two doctors in the family, trust me, they care and they are careful but they only have as much info as a patient gives them.

FOX 6 says it’s their duty to the community to expose such crimes, really? What crimes? What did you expose? NOTHING. I will tell you what you did do, you wasted tax payer money, my money. You loved to take responsibility for sparking this investigation, I believe you should also give equal air  to the fact that you wasted peoples time, hurt innocent people and wasted resources.  Then perhaps you should address the societal issues that cause pain patients to sell their drugs, which is really where all the prescription drugs come from. Legitimate patients who will handle the pain by depriving themselves of medication so that they can put food on the table. No one forces pills down anyone’s throats.

I wonder what could be dug up on Brad Hicks. Do you drug test him? I bet a months pay he comes up positive for THC, oh the horror, how can I feel safe getting my news from someone who is on drugs!?! Just look at those ties, he must be on drugs, better put a hidden camera in his bong.

You’re a joke, and you perpetuate a joke, that unfortunately will go on forever. I and many people I know are boycotting FOX 6 and WTMJ 4. You are not doing a service to the community, report the news stop your fear mongering. We have enough to be worried about right now, don’t you think?

Trust me this is no where near the only place this will be posted, it’s early and I am very tired. There will be a far more articulate version, with many specific examples of yournidiocy posted EVERYWHERE.  Get ready for it.
