Be an expert on LinkedIn by Answering Questions
Linkedin.com is one of the few social networks that I think really is a necessity for business. No matter what you currently do, you should be working on your profile on linkedin because you never know when you might need it. Linkedin is a social network for professionals. You can post your experience, work history, resume, and of course , make connections. The nice thing about Linkedin is that it encourages contact because it opens the other person contacts up to you.
I ran across a social network a while back that was interesting. The premise was the degrees of separation. You would find a person you wanted to talk to, then the site would figure out who you knew and who they knew that could get you to the person you wanted to speak to. The idea is good, but uploading my address book is not going to happen, ever, and it also would require a lot of other big-time people doing the same, so its not going to go anywhere.
Back to linked in. There is a bar that shows how close you are to completing your profile, I have been sitting at 90% for about a year. I finally decided to get to 100%. In my research to find out what I was missing, I stumbled on part of linkedin that I had not paid much attention to up until recently: the answers section. Linkedin has a section where you can ask a question for any industry and other members will answer them. You can also place links with your answer (hint hint) and a private note to the person who asked the question. I started flipping through the questions and saw quite a few that I knew the answer to. So, I answered one. Then, I answered another. Pretty soon, 2 hours had gone by and I had answered 15 or so questions. I was reading the answers from other users and I was impressed by the knowledge and helpfulness of the community. Very nice people, smart, and helpful.
This morning I logged and and there were a bunch of messages in my inbox. Most of the people who had asked the questions that I answered had written me personal notes. I also got a couple requests to join their networks, which if you recall opens up their contacts to me. Good deal.
Once again, no one likes a know-it-all but it works in some places. Never miss an opportunity to get your name out there and links to your site. Confirming that you are one of the smartest people in the room doesn’t hurt either.
Make sure you add me as a connection!
Brad Hicks Milwaukee – You can make this all go away
Brad Hicks of FOX 6 news Milwaukee. I know you are Googling yourself. I can just tell you are that kind of guy. Most celebs will tell you to never Google yourself, but I look at you and I just know your are a self-googler. Brad, I can make this all go away. By now I know you have seen that not only am I #1 for Brad Hicks Milwaukee, I am also #2! That is over your facebook page and over your linkedin profile. Brad Hicks – I am talking to you. I have a proposition for you Brad. It is simple. I just need you to say something, just 3 words. Three simple words. You can sneak them into your newscast, or your sign off, but I want to hear them. If you say these words Brad, I will take down all my Brad Hicks bashing. The three words are “Pig on you”. That’s it.
Brad Hicks, its not really fair that I have targeted you in these posts. You did that ridiculous story about the Riverwest clinic, then oddly enough, you did a story on Suboxone and the corruption of the methadone clinics. Two stories that while seemingly unlrelated, are not. It would have been decent of you Brad to maybe mention something at the end of your newscast about the Riverwest clinic being one of the place in Milwaukee for people to get Suboxone, and that your story – which once again I feel I need to point out RESULTED IN NO CHARGES, just a major inconvenience. You didn’t tho, so I grant you no quarter.
From now until the end of time when someone Googles Brad Hicks Milwaukee, they will come across a bunch of articles on your douchiness. However, if you want that to change. 3 words – “Pig on you”
Since I have a standing boycott on FOX news. I am going to pick the date. On Wednesday April 1st. Brad Hicks you must say “Pig on You” one your 6 pm news cast. No explanations why, just do it and these pages come down and a new one comes up that shows Brad Hicks and his colorful ties. All the page will say is. Thank You Brad.
Remember.. Pig on you..
